SFPTI unveils new cancer center to local doctors

January 8, 2019

The SFPTI staff invited local doctors and area residents to an open house at its new facility on the campus of Delray Medical Center on December 19. Attendees received guided tours by Dr. Tim Williams, Medical Director, and Dr. Marc Apple, Associate Medical Director, and learned about the smarter, safer and more successful cancer treatment plans SFPTI is bringing to the Palm Beach County community.

While SFPTI will continue to deliver traditional X-ray radiation therapy at its existing annex location (5130 Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach), the open house served as a showcase for the new, 40,000-square-foot cancer center that not only houses the most advanced X-ray radiation equipment in the industry — TrueBeam® Radiotherapy System and the Edge® Radiosurgery System, both by Varian — but also the ProBeam® Compact single-room proton therapy solution from Varian. The ProBeam® Compact is the first of its kind in the U.S. and will allow SFPTI to administer proton radiation therapy treatments beginning this summer.

“We have the most complex and effective radiation devices available today, and we are putting them to good use,” said Dr. Williams. “The technological and medical advancements that have been made are remarkable.”

Proton therapy has the ability to revolutionize cancer care, and SFPTI is making it possible here in South Florida.

“We will always strive to provide the most advanced cancer treatments possible because we care deeply about each and every individual that walks through our door,” said Dr. Williams. “We truly do see each patient as a member of our family, and having the ability to improve the quality of life for those we treat means a great deal to us.”

The doctors and staff appreciate all who attended the open house and look forward to partnering with those physicians in the future.

“It is important for referring physicians to know that when they send one of their patients somewhere for treatment, they will receive the best care and results,” said Dr. Apple. “That’s what they deserve and, with the staff and technology in place here at SFPTI, that’s precisely what they can expect.”
